Call for Artists!
Mason Bee House
Dear Artists: Each year NCA provides unfinished bird houses to our artist friends for transformation into a fine piece of art. We auction these at our annual Miner's Foundry event. This is a major fund raiser for our programs and a delight to our community.
The new "Buzz" this year is to invite exploration of the idea of Bee Houses! Based on the Orchard Mason Bee Houses, Mason bees are mportant pollinators who lay eggs in tubes about 5/16" in diameter and 3 - 5" deep. Lots of potential here for pattern, color, texture, symbolism, and interpretation.
Now is the time to ORDER your HOUSES as a "blank canvas" and to let your creative spirit fly free, so to speak. You also can create a 2D or relief wall hanging, and of course build your own birdhouse from scratch.
See the slide show at the left for some of the wonderful and whimsical entries from prior years. And the page with Bee House information.
The prebuilt houses include a few new designs, and the opportunity for the artist to create an assemblage of basic houses to create a unique combined structure. They have been constructed and designed by local craftsman, and materials have been supplied by local firms.
So large or small, take your pick of the designs shown on this site and notify us of the components you need. Then embellish, modify, decorate to your hearts and inner whimsey's content.
Plan to return your newly born work of art to NCA by September 21 so we can exhibit your work in local businesses and then setup for the auction at the Foundry.
Thanks for your support, and we hope to see you for the reception at the Foundry.
